When the King Makes the Call

Pastor Moss

1 Samuel 30:1-6 speaks of King David having to endure the emotional aspects of the men he had served with because of their loss.  The Amalekites had raided the town of Ziklag while King David and his men were away.  When they returned they found that their possessions had been taken and the men proceeded to blame King David for their loss.  At this point the men spoke of killing King David because they blamed him for what had happened.  King David inquired of the Lord, “What shall I do?”

Such is the case with King James—LeBron James.   What we are witnessing is the emotional response to a spiritual decision.  Anyone who truly paid attention to LeBron James’ non-verbal reaction to his decision could truly see that it was one that he did not arrive at very easily.  Nevertheless, with prayer, and wise counsel LeBron James made a decision that he and his family would have to live with.  The response of the Cleveland community and most notably the owner of the Cavaliers displays the exact manner in which many deal with the impact of change.  The owner referred to LeBron James in such a negative manner that so clearly demonstrated an unprecedented level of emotionalism indicative of our reference scripture.

King David’s men wanted to harm him because they blamed him for the loss of their “stuff.”  Similarly, the owner of the Cavaliers is responding in a manner that expresses no concern for King James the person but King James the commodity.  Rest assured, that the owner would not hesitate to trade or dismiss LeBron James had he not performed at the exceptional level that he is.  Moreover, how can you refer to someone as narcissistic when $2.5 million has been donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as a result of the activities surrounding this monumental announcement.  Don’t hate because another young brother has positioned himself to work the system instead of having the system work him.

I submit to you, that we should applaud and support another young African American brother who has made a wise decision out of consideration for his family and most importantly, what he feels led to do.  To the owner of the Cavaliers, this is exactly the message that we want to send to our kids.  It is not always about the money.

While I have more to say I will end here.  Hail to the King!

Peace & Love,

Pastor M
