As I watched the NBA All Star Game it was interesting to me that as the players were introduced, that when Kobe Bryant’s name was called, the entire stadium erupted with cheers and a thunderous applause. I thought to myself, “Wasn’t this the same Kobe Bryant that people were trying to crucify just a couple of years ago?”Then my mind went on to think about others who have “fallen from grace” but survived to see a day of restoration. Two thoughts occurred to me. One-- while there are those people who thrive at another one’s downfall, there are others who are praying and feel the pain. Secondly, the person going through has to trust that with a repentant heart and the courage to continue to face the next day, they can overcome. It is unfortunate that those in the crowd who are yelling, “Crucify him, crucify him” are the loudest. But we must remember that it is the still small voice that says be still and know that I am God. During this Lenten season allow the voice of God calling you back to him to drown out the voices of those who love nothing more than to see you ultimately defeated. After all, He didn’t bring you this far to leave you now.
