God of the Second Chance

Pastor Moss

This week we learned former NFL star Michael Vick was reinstated by the NFL and could play in regular season games this fall.  Former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy has announced he will serve as mentor to Vick.  The Superbowl-winning coach, who has been active in prison ministries, said he believes in second chances, "...for people who admit their mistakes and are committed to changing."

What a wonderful example of what Christianity is all about!

When asked in May by the Atlanta Journal Constitution whether Vick should be forgiven, I responded- Yes-- this faith walk is about experiencing the grace of God and helping others know that there is forgiveness.

So many times, we let the mistakes of our past cripple us from reaching our full potential.  Yes, you may have a criminal record.  Yes, you may be a teen parent.  Yes, you may have said some things to a loved one that you now regret.  The good news is God is a forgiving God, and that if you truly repent, you can start anew.

I'm quite sure many Vick doubters and possibly supporters too would not have believed that today he's being considered by several NFL teams, and being publicly supported by one of the most respected former coaches in the League.  It's a testament and reminder that God - not man-- has the final say.  Regardless of what's in your past; you can start over. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us,If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Make the decision today. Go with God. Claim your second chance!

Peace & love,
Pastor M.
