I don’t have all the facts, but I’ve heard enough of the back–and-forth between Rev. Al Sharpton and Mr. Tavis Smiley. Once again, the disagreement between two notable and prominent African American leaders has been sensationalized. It would have been good if the disagreement had not been on air for the world to hear. Nevertheless it was. Again I say I don’t have all of the facts, but one thing I do know is that we as a race need to turn to one another and not on one another. We continue to highlight what has not happened for us instead of focusing on what God is trying to do through us. How is it that the generations before us could do so much with so little? What was it about them that they could look inwardly and do phenomenal things facing insurmountable odds? One day we will realize that unless a plan of action comes from the conversation then all we’re doing is gathering to hear ourselves talk. I would submit to you that we’ve talked long enough about not having enough. My brothers and sisters we have opportunity beyond measure. We can attend any school we want, seek employment anywhere we want, live anywhere we want because those before us had a plan of action. So then I say if there are those who desire to continue to converse, rehearse, and nurse how we as a race have been cursed then more power to them. But as for me, I’m going to work.
Peace,
