As we enter into this week, we approach an historical moment in the life of Atlanta:  A mayoral race which promises to be one of the most important races since the election of the first black mayor of this prominent city.  This election parallels in importance given the state of the city, and the plight of its citizens. 

While some have tried to make this race about race, the citizens have moved beyond race to focus on relevance. Will the new mayor and his or her vision be relevant to enhancing the human condition of the least of these?  The people no longer sit idly by watching what happens and wondering what happened; instead they are taking an active part in turning the tide. 

"If change is to be it is up to me."  That is the mindset of the citizens of this great city.  The outcome of this election will do more than just identify another leader-- it will symbolize and signify the voice of a people no longer willing to just settle.

Showing up in church is all good and well, as are fancy ads, and show and tell... but the people want results.  And so whoever is elected mayor, rest assured the people will hold you accountable.
