I recently had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion centered on the CNN documentary, "Almighty Debt:  A Black in America Special."  Host Soledad O'Brien interviews individuals in the African American community who have been seriously affected by the economic downturn.  In addition to this, she poses the question, “what impact does the Black Church have regarding the economic condition that exist today?”

This opportunity was extremely timely in that we have launched a four-week study entitled, “The Road to Financial Freedom.”  Over the next three weeks we will explore what God says about money, and our ability to manage money.  I believe that once we learn how to do better we will do better.  The time is now for us to embrace those fundamental tenets that have brought us this far.  They are:  commitment, excellence, and pride. 

Let us commit ourselves to the building, renewing, and restoring of ourselves and our community to a level that truly represents the best that God has offer.
