While I could be talking about the anniversary of the historic March on Washington, and commentator Glenn Beck’s countermarch, let’s talk about something else (other than Beck)— that really matters.![]() On the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, we remember in our prayers those individuals who are still recovering from the disastrous effects. While some have recovered financially, their emotional recovery is ongoing. So while we are still battling with racism, sexism, and classism; proper priority would dictate that we not lose sight of the basic necessities of life. The residents of the Gulf Coast experienced life without basic necessities. The support that was given during their time of need was phenomenal. However, as we pause to thank God for covering those who are still seeking to recover… we must not forget that priority dictates that regardless of race, creed and or color; class, age or sex; as Kingdom people we are responsible for caring for our neighbors. That means our neighbors in the Gulf Coast area as well as our neighbors in Haiti, Sudan, Pakistan, and anywhere else humanity is suffering due to the lack of basic necessity.
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. Let us strive to make space at the brotherhood table, while remembering the goals of Dr. King, and the dreams still yet to be realized for our brothers and sisters in New Orleans. Peace & Love, Pastor M
