Pastor MossThe world has witnessed the horrific massacre at Ft Hood, Army installation in Killeen, Texas.  The very people who are taught to trust one another with their lives, were betrayed when one of their fellow soldiers went on a shooting rampage.  The situation is even more exacerbated given the suspect’s faith persuasion as a Muslim.  So then, as the finger pointing ensues and the blame has to be placed somewhere, we will undoubtedly see Muslims becoming the focal point of this investigation.

It is unfortunate that when a tragedy occurs at the hands of an individual who belongs to a particular ethnic group, religion, etc. that the entire group comes under the microscope.  This will be a true test of our ability to not profile, but instead to propose possible options for maintaining a community of peace while addressing those occurrences that seek to destroy what God had intended for humanity from the very beginning.

There is no doubt that as the investigation continues that reasons for one man’s behavior will be presented.  But who will present possible options that will seek to sooth the families who’ve suffered loss, restore the confidence of those soldiers at Ft. Hood, and help the community at large to be able to trust again?

As an Army brat I am all too familiar with the closeness of the community of a military installation.  My Dad served for 27 years and there are relationships that have sustained the test of time.  I am confident that as the community of faith comes together, combined with our prayers and intentional efforts at demonstrating the love of God, we shall overcome this horrific violence and prepare ourselves for the days ahead.

Peace & Love,

Pastor M.
