Mission
The mission of the cascade Higher Education and Campus Ministry (HECM) is to serve as a resource and a link between Cascade United Methodist Church, local college campuses, and individuals pursuing education in colleges and universities.
GOALS
- Maintain continuous and interactive communication between Cascade and the local higher education community.
- Promote the value of higher education achievement at all levels—undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate.
- Develop and implement programs and promote opportunities for college and university students to explore the integration of faith and secular life experiences.
- Provide opportunities for Cascade United Methodist Church parishioners to support higher education achievement and aspirations.
- Develop and present programs that inform CUMC members of current and historical efforts to celebrate education.
HOW WE SERVE CASCADE
- Collaborate with the campus chaplain and student organizations to present four chapel services each academic year.
- Assist campus organizations with two faith events each academic year.
- Collaborate with campus chaplain to develop Wesleyan Foundation by providing volunteers to on the planning committee.
- Produce and distribute three issues of the scholarship recipient e-letter annually
- In collaboration with the Scholarship Committee provide scholarship opportunity information four times annually to the student/parent mailing list
- Work with the Youth Ministry to provide each scholarship recipient the opportunity to fulfill their community service commitment.
- Administer the entire scholarship application and award selection process to ensure a fair and equitable opportunity for all applicants.
- Plan and host the annual award ceremony and reception.
- Increase the amount and number of scholarships awarded each year by 25% through encouraging the Cascade Membership to establish and/or contribute to a scholarship, and challenging businesses listed in the Cascade Business Directory to establish individual scholarship funds.
- Raise $25,000 to begin the endowment of Kimbrough and Miller Scholarships through the events such as the “Afternoon with the Arts” featuring exhibits of art pieces/written/spoken word/works by artist from Cascade and the surrounding community.
