A Reflection on Faith
“Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.” Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.
In life, we face hardships that can weaken our faith. Most times, it seems that our prayers are unanswered and do not appear to go beyond the roof. Despite our fervent pleas, we feel as if everything is getting worse rather than better.
When we are confronted with insurmountable problems, what should be our attitude? How should we respond to the fiery darts of the enemy? More importantly, do we have the faith to trust God with all our hearts that His purpose will be fulfilled in our lives?
While many disheartening situations challenge us during our Christian walk, we can always go to Scripture and let God talk to us. To see what our attitude should be when confronted with spiritual storms in our lives, I invite you to revisit the story of the Canaanite woman who came to Jesus for her daughter’s healing. (Matthew 15:21-28)
The mother’s persistent faith, demonstrated through her spirit of true worship of Jesus as Lord, resulted in a spirit of humility and total surrender. She acknowledged that even the crumbs from the master’s table were sufficient to heal her daughter.
This desperate mother rose above the rebuke and silence and focused on her daughter’s need. Clearly, she sought Jesus with all her heart. Because of her unwavering faith, she was personally commended by Jesus, and her request was granted. The daughter of the Canaanite woman was “healed from that very hour.” This was the SWEETEST REWARD of her faith.
Know that every time we pray for something, the answer is already on its way before we even ask God. While we endure life’s tests and trials, we need to also heed to the words in Hebrews 11:6: And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him. Just trust God’s timetable and infinite wisdom. He will answer us according to His will and purpose. GREAT IS GOD’S FAITHFULNESS.
