Making Church Relevant

Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.

Psalm 34:8 (NIV)

Greetings!

If you are new to Cascade UMC, we just want to say, “Hi!” We hope you like it here. We are blessed beyond measure because you have chosen to connect with us!

Now that you are here, we want to share a little bit about who we are, what we believe, and what we like to do. Later, you can tell us all about you.

At Cascade, we like to get to know Jesus better. We read about Him. We discuss Him. We walk with Him. We worship Him. We praise Him! We do all these things because we believe He is real. We also believe His “Holy Spirit” resides in each one of us.

At Cascade, we are a family of Christians who believe in the Lord and we make Him a priority in our lives. Yes, we have a few rules–but what growing place doesn’t? Just like at home, our church needs “order” or things can get out of hand.

At Cascade, we enjoy the “sweet, sweet spirit in this place.” We have a clear understanding of what it means to serve and through our ministry divisions, many opportunities are available here for you to share your talents and time. We like to make others feel “warm and fuzzy” and we enjoy doing it! The only thing that’s missing is you!

We invite you to continue your search and learn more about Cascade UMC.  Come fellowship with us and enjoy the Glory of God through worship and ministry.

Our Beliefs

Our best chosen words can never adequately express the fullness of who we are as God’s people.  Somehow, mental analysis cannot lend itself to full expressions of our hearts nor the heart of God.  However, we acknowledge that we are God’s people and heirs with Christ.

We have been blessed with a solid biblical foundation and deep theological roots which serve as our impetus for engaging ministry at Cascade and in the world. We have been given an abundance of spiritual blessings. We assume accountability and responsibility for sharing, in manifold ways, the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We believe in one God

We believe in one God who is infinite in power, wisdom and love. God is a spirit (John 4:24) and God is love. “If we love one another, God lives in us” (1 John 4:12). We trust in God as the creator, ruler and sustainer of all things.

We believe in Jesus Christ

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Messiah, Deliverer and Savior of the world. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born into humankind as a ransom sacrifice for our sins. He was fully human and fully divine. He was crucified, died and was buried. He rose from the dead and now lives with God the Father as our great intercessor. He will come again as our high ruling king and judge of all the earth.

We believe in the Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit as our comforter, guide and strength in life. His presence is evidenced in our lives as love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, meekness and temperance. (Galatians 5:22-23). The Holy Spirit also helps us in our weakness (Romans 8:26) and affirms the truth of Jesus Christ in our lives.

We believe in forgiveness

We believe in forgiveness. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. By grace we are saved through faith and not of our own merit. It is a gift from God (Ephesians 2: 8-9). Because God forgives us, we can forgive others.

We believe in the Word of God

We believe in the Word of God, as found in the Old and New Testaments, as the sufficient source of our faith and practice. All scripture is given by God’s inspiration and is useful for showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes and training us to live God’s way (2 Timothy 3:16). Gods speaks through scripture so that the ancient witness may be interpreted in the context of our current lives.

We believe in the church

We believe in the church and the priesthood of all believers. When we say “yes” to God we accept the call to be disciples of Jesus Christ, in ministry to the world. God endows every Christian with gifts for the advancement of his kingdom “on earth as it is in heaven.” At Cascade United Methodist Church, our gifts are shared through ministries of Nurture, Outreach, Worship and Witness.

We represent a light of Christ in the community, breaking the darkness of hopelessness and despair. We are a God-Led, Holy-Spirit Filled, Cohesive, Disciple-Making, Christ-Centered congregation. We know that God blesses us daily and continues to enable us to do great things. We embrace God’s vision and one another in the Sweet, Sweet Spirit of Jesus Christ. We believe that we must always make a positive difference in the church and in the world.
