Our Beliefs

Our best chosen words can never adequately express the fullness of who we are as God’s people.  Somehow, mental analysis cannot lend itself to full expressions of our hearts nor the heart of God.  However, we acknowledge that we are God’s people and heirs with Christ.

We have been blessed with a solid biblical foundation and deep theological roots which serve as our impetus for engaging ministry at Cascade and in the world. We have been given an abundance of spiritual blessings. We assume accountability and responsibility for sharing, in manifold ways, the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We believe in one God who is infinite in power, wisdom and love. God is a spirit (John 4:24) and God is love. “If we love one another, God lives in us” (1 John 4:12). We trust in God as the creator, ruler and sustainer of all things.

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Messiah, Deliverer and Savior of the world. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born into humankind as a ransom sacrifice for our sins. He was fully human and fully divine. He was crucified, died and was buried. He rose from the dead and now lives with God the Father as our great intercessor. He will come again as our high ruling king and judge of all the earth.

We believe in the Holy Spirit as our comforter, guide and strength in life. His presence is evidenced in our lives as love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, meekness and temperance. (Galatians 5:22-23). The Holy Spirit also helps us in our weakness (Romans 8:26) and affirms the truth of Jesus Christ in our lives.

We believe in forgiveness. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. By grace we are saved through faith and not of our own merit. It is a gift from God (Ephesians 2: 8-9). Because God forgives us, we can forgive others.

We believe in the Word of God, as found in the Old and New Testaments, as the sufficient source of our faith and practice. All scripture is given by God’s inspiration and is useful for showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes and training us to live God’s way (2 Timothy 3:16). Gods speaks through scripture so that the ancient witness may be interpreted in the context of our current lives.

We believe in the church and the priesthood of all believers. When we say “yes” to God we accept the call to be disciples of Jesus Christ, in ministry to the world. God endows every Christian with gifts for the advancement of his kingdom “on earth as it is in heaven.” At Cascade United Methodist Church, our gifts are shared through ministries of Nurture, Outreach, Worship and Witness.

We represent a light of Christ in the community, breaking the darkness of hopelessness and despair. We are a God-Led, Holy-Spirit Filled, Cohesive, Disciple-Making, Christ-Centered congregation. We know that God blesses us daily and continues to enable us to do great things. We embrace God’s vision and one another in the Sweet, Sweet Spirit of Jesus Christ. We believe that we must always make a positive difference in the church and in the world.
